Description
The Universal Genève Swiss watch brand was founded in 1894, and developed in-house movements to equip its collections. Several models are still highly sought-after among collectors to this day: the Uni-Compax, the Compax, the MedicoCompax, the Aero-Compax and the Tri-Compax (also referred to as “le glorieux”), as well as the famous Polerouter.
In this mode, “Tri” is derived from the three main complications, chronograph, full calendar and moon phases. One of the most complex chronograph wristwatches of the period, its functions include days, weeks, jumping months, moon phases, minute counter, chronographic hours and a tachymeter scale.
Honest Vintage: The Greg Selch Collection
A native New Yorker from a family of connoisseurs, Greg Selch has collected watches for over 20 years, among many other things. Over the years, Selch has become well-known for his passion: “orphan watches” as well as well-worn watches with patina, for which a term has been created: #selchism.
Condition Report
FairThe watch is in overall fair condition with light wear throughout commensurate with age. Case is in overall good condition with scratches. Generic strap is in good condition. Dial and hands have aged with patina. Dial has aged in a tropical state to a warm yellow. Caseback shows minor signs of scratches. The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. All watches sold in this collection are in their 'as found' vintage state and may include replacement parts or modifications.
