Released in May 1995, “Fake Plastic Trees” was the third UK single from The Bends and the band’s first US single from the album.

One of Radiohead’s defining early songs, it marked a decisive movement away from the guitar-driven angst of Pablo Honey towards the more atmospheric, emotionally complex song-writing that would establish them as one of the most important British bands of the period.

With accompanying statement of provenance detailing how the lyrics were obtained by a fan following the band’s appearance in Cambridge in November 1995.
