Description

British poster for the movie The Empire Strikes Back, 1980.

  • Roger Kastel (American, b. 1932).
  • Lucas Films, Ltd.
  • Twentieth-Century Fox.
  • Style A.
  • Paper, backed with linen.

This British poster contains the full Roger Kastel artwork that was also included on the American withdrawn international concept poster. These two posters include Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett and a Hoth Rebel trench cannon, together with the iconic image of Han Solo and Princess Leia, in what is known as the "Gone with the Wind" style. This imagery bears a resemblance to the embrace of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh on the classic 1939 film poster for "Gone with the Wind." This rare poster was designed early on in the film's advertising campaign for use on the London underground to promote the film's premiere. This poster was replaced by two different style B posters, designed by Tom Jung, which were used nationwide and printed in large quantities. The two style B posters have totally different artwork. This poster, when used on the London underground, had to be trimmed as it was too large.
