Description

Designed as a serpent, set with 206 round sapphires, 624 round brilliant diamonds, 60 black onyx beads and enamel.

  • Diamonds weighing a total of approximately 5.63 carats
  • Sapphires weighing a total of approximately 5.58 carats
  • Signed Marei 2021
  • 14 karat white gold
  • 40.60 grams

Inspired by the tragic story of Cleopatra's death by suicide, Angie Marei wanted to create something sultry, dark and dramatic, taking color inspiration from 19th-century antique glass perfume bottles and antique poison bottles that were often made using cobalt blue and black colors. She chose to use white diamonds, vibrant blue sapphires and black enamel. The earrings are versatile and can be worn five different ways.

This piece is part of Sotheby's Brilliant and Black: A Jewelry Renaissance, the selling exhibition dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary skill, imagination, and craftsmanship of Black jewelry designers.
