Description

First edition of the first official book about Mickey Mouse, also featuring the first mention in print of the still-developing Donald Duck character in the scarce original dust jacket.

  • Staff of Walt Disney Studio (American).
  • Philadelphia: David McKay Company, [1931].
  • [32] pages.
  • Illustrated in color throughout.
  • Bound in original color pictorial paper boards, with original color pictorial dust jacket (no price), color pictorial endpapers.

Disney first exposed its original characters to print through comic books, but this 1931 book followed quickly on the heels of their strips. The Donald Duck of this production is, simply, a duck: depicted in all yellow, with no clothes or special features of the other named characters like Minnie, Henry Horse, and Carolyn Cow. In 1934, Disney fleshed out Donald in their comics into the foil-like character with the short fuse. Today, copies are scarce in collectible condition, and especially so in the original dust jacket.
