Description
The first Royal Oak was created in 1972 and was introduced as the world's first luxury watch in stainless steel, as an attempt to revitalize traditional watchmaking from the quartz crisis. With 50 years in production, the Royal Oak has undergone 500 variations. The Royal Oak case remained decorative and practical with an octagonal shape, extreme thinness, water resistance and a hexagonal crown.
The AP Royal Oak 15400 was released in 2012 and is powered by caliber 3120, which beats at an impressive 21,600 per hour. It contains 40 jewels and 278 individual parts, and a power reserve of 60 hours.
Condition Report
The watch is in overall good condition with wear throughout commensurate with age. The case has light scratches. The bezel has visible dents and scratches. The bracelet has scratches throughout. The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
