A hallmark of ’80s glamour, the opulent and colorful jewelry of Marina B is characterized by bold designs and generously proportioned gemstones set in radiant gold.
Born in Rome in 1930, Marina Bulgari grew up amidst her family’s famed house, BVLGARI, which was founded in 1884 by her grandfather, Sotirios Voulgaris. With a passion for art and design, she joined the family business before leaving in 1978 to create her own eponymous brand, Marina B. The brand honors the Bulgari family heritage through the lens of a contemporary female designer. Marina B created a new market for jewelry, comprising modern women who had the power and desire to buy jewelry for themselves.
Known for her vibrant collections of the highest quality, Marina Bulgari is recognized as one of the most eminent figures in contemporary jewelry design. In the late ’70s, Marina created the iconic “Onda” and “Pneu” collections, and she innovated gemstone cuts such as the “Chestnut” and internal spring mechanisms in the ’80s. The Marina B. legacy lives on through its current creative director, Guy Bedarida, who has worked for Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels. In May of 2020, Marina B jewelry was auctioned at Sotheby’s in “The Bold Standard: Jewels by Bulgari and Marina B” and her timeless designs are worn by today’s stars, such as Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez.
