Description
The Rolex Daytona Reference 16520 is widely regarded as one of the most important and collectible vintage sports chronographs in modern horology. Produced from 1988 to 2000, it inaugurated the automatic era of the Daytona and is universally known as the “Zenith Daytona” for its use of a heavily reengineered version of Zenith’s El Primero, the legendary high beat automatic chronograph calibre. Rolex extensively modified the movement, reducing the frequency, redesigning the escapement, and reworking over half of its components to meet the brand’s chronometric and durability standards. This fusion of Zenith’s historic architecture with Rolex’s engineering philosophy, combined with the reference’s transitional aesthetics, has elevated the 16520 to icon status among collectors, defining an entire generation of modern vintage Daytona scholarship.
