Richard Mille

Beyond the motorsport world, Richard Mille has been very involved in the yachting universe. In fact, 2023 will see the launch of the first Richard Mille cup, a race for classic yachts on both sides of the English Channel.  

In 2007, Richard Mille introduced its emblematic RM015, of which the present lot is a most attractive example.

The watch pays tribute to the elegance of the classic ships with its ribbed bezel evocating the wooden decks, the crown is shaped as a winch, the rehaut has a vibrant navy-blue colour and the hands are nicely rounded in a shape of a ship, instead of the usual baton shape.

Beyond its impeccable aesthetic, the RM015 embarks a stunning and incredibly complex movement. As yachting incorporates the notion of travel, the watch has a second time zone indication displayed on a sapphire crystal disc, over a contrasting white background between 10 and 11 o’clock. It is easily set through the pusher located at 9 o’clock. Furthermore, this watch has a power reserve as well as a torque indication. It also has even a function selector: C for carica (winding), N for neutrale (neutral) and L for lancette (hand setting). The functions are indicated in Italian, to pay tribute to the inspiration of the model.

Even more importantly, the RM015 displays a tourbillon at 6 o’clock, a captivating complication bringing life to the watch. Invented by A-L Breguet, this function is also closely linked to the history of navigation and the quest of precision. It is also a signature complication of Richard Mille, who masters it to the highest degree.
