Description
Posters of the Beatles, photographed by Richard Avedon for Look Magazine.
In 1967, at the height of the "Flower Power" era, acclaimed American fashion and portrait photographer Richard Avedon met with the Beatles in Thompson House, London. Commissioned by Look Magazine to do a set of individual portraits of the fab four, he overlaid solarized prints with psychedelic Day-Glo colors and symbolic attributes. They were first published in the 9th January 1968 edition of Look Magazine in the U.S. and you could mail order your own set of “Flame Bright John, Flower Power Paul, Mystic George and Dove Loving Ringo.”
They were also offered for sale in Stern Magazine in Germany, The Daily Express in England, and Varagids in Holland. All 4 printings were simultaneous in 1967 and there were 4 different printers, one from each country that printed the posters for their respective publication. The Look Magazine ones, offered here, are the largest of the series.
