Description
Nautical Festival [Fête Nautique], by Raoul Dufy and Jacques Villon, 1926.
This work is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Raoul Dufy” at the lower left margin. It is further inscribed “Gravé par Jacques Villon 1926” in the lower right platemark.
After the First World War Jacques Villon engraved a series of Aquatints after paintings of the Modern masters, such as Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Derain, Laurencin, Signac, Renoir, Cezanne, Vlaminck, Bonnard, Manet, Dufy, Luce, Modigiliani, Van Gogh, and others. This particular work was etched and aquatinted on the plate by Jacques Villon after the specially prepared maquette by Dufy and with Dufy’s collaboration and supervision.
The work was published by Galerie Bernheim Jeune, Paris in 1928. The paper bears the Arches watermark in the lower margin. Inscribed with the number 75/200 by another hand in the lower left corner.
