Description
Poul Nielsen (Danish, 1920–1998).
This work is offered unframed.
Oil still-life in an interior with a periwinkle-blue table, bearing a vase with an informally arranged bouquet of red and white tulips beside a patterned china dish and bowl holding fruit, inside a sun-dappled room decorated in shades of rust, rose and lavender-blue.
This is a vibrant and light-filled work by this well-listed Danish Modernist and disciple of Morisot and Vuillard. Nielsen first studied at the Freiberg Technical School and, after the war, at the Copenhagen Art Academy. He subsequently studied throughout Europe and, later, as his palette continued to lighten, in both Egypt and Greece. Nielsen exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards.
