Description
Shreve & Co. was incorporated as a jeweler in 1894 and is one of the oldest commercial establishments. In the late 1800s, they grew to be known as one of the finest silversmiths, however, pocket watches dating from 1882 have been signed with the Shreve & Co signature on the dial. The example today is double-signed by Shreve & Co. on the dial and movement.
Condition Report
FairThe pocket watch is in overall good condition with light wear throughout commensurate with age. Case is in overall good condition with minor surface wear with signs of tarnish. Engraving at the hunting case. Dial is in fair condition. Crystal has visible scratches. The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
