Description

Etruscan neoclassical-style medallion mirror.

  • Upright oval plate within a flat gradrooned slip, surmounted by a pierced foliate shell, S-scroll and acanthus leaf cresting.
  • Trailing fillets of scrolling leaves.
  • Base with shell, C-scrolls and unswept scrolling foliage.
  • Most likely of English or French origin.

Condition Report

Later modifications and repairs.

The reverse with wood oxidation and isolated areas of inactive woodworm damage.

Traces of red bole throughout finish.

Bottom left finial is almost fully detached and will require an adhesive agent.

Examined off the wall, with no hanging mechanism in place.
