Description

A first edition, first printing of Ghost Stories of an Antiquary by M.R. James.

  • Montague Rhodes James (English).
  • London: Edward Arnold, 1904.
  • The frontispiece and three plates are finely illustrated by James Bride.
  • Issued without a dust wrapper and in the original publishers cloth binding with yapp edges, bordered in a deep red, embossed stain, with black titling.

While illustrating this book, James Bride died. The publisher consequently suggested another illustrator, but the author rejected the proposal. This is the author's first short story collection, which precedes the later published More Ghost Stories.
