Description
Limited French edition of Carroll's mathematical logic primer, illustrated by his great Surrealist admirer.
Selections from Carroll's Symbolic Logic, and The Game of Logic, translated into French and profusely illustrated by Ernst in charming and startling style: sometimes geometric and abstract, elsewhere figural and whimsical. Carroll's works held a perennial fascination for French and English surrealists and symbolists and all their descendants; Ernst in particular returned to Carroll's Alice figure repeatedly as motif and inspiration, and would rework some of the illustrations in Logique Sans Peine in his 1970 lithograph series for Carroll's Wunderhorn.
