Jean Dubuffet (French, 1901-1985).
This piece is final sale and not eligible for return.
"La gorgerette froncée" ("The Puckered Collar") belongs to Jean Dubuffet’s Éléments Botaniques series of 1959. This exquisite work draws on the flattened, frontal figures in Dubuffet’s Texturologies while combining organic materials with oil paint to form an elegant grotesque that recalls the vegetable-human hybrids of 16th-century Italian mannerist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.
