Jean Richard

Daniel Jeanrichard was born at the end of the 17th century in the hamlet of Les Bressels, midway between La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle. He produced his first watch in 1681 and later set up his own watchmaking workshop. He built a machine that he shared with his colleagues and trained apprentices. Jeanrichard was one of the driving forces behind the watch industry and was ahead of his time, with a gift for innovation. Besides watch production, he is also recognized for inventing machines and tools, as well as establishing watchmaking apprenticeships. Louis Jeanrichard (1812–1875), Daniel’s grandson, was one of the most gifted watchmakers of his generation. He had a considerable influence on the production of high-quality watches, for example creating an observatory in his workshop to test the precision of his watches, long before the Neuchâtel Observatory was set up. As the guardian of this extraordinary history, JEANRICHARD continues to pay tribute to its pioneer, Daniel Jeanrichard. His spirit of innovation remains one of the brand’s fundamental values.
