Description

Jean Kalisch (American, 1912–1955).

This work is offered unframed.

Born in Japan, Jean Kalisch started her art training early and, when she was seven years old, began to receive additional instruction in Chinese brush and ink calligraphy. This early discipline allowed her to develop intuitive brushwork. Her training in pencil drawing of landscapes and oil painting continued until she was 17. She then moved to Tokyo to study chemistry, with the intention of becoming a pharmacist. After World War II, she married an American serviceman and moved to California, where she resumed her career as an artist, exhibiting widely and with success.
