Description

Lacquered and gilt traveling shrine with standing Kannon from the Edo period.

  • Intricately etched bronze fittings on the door, base, and corners.
  • Gilded interior depicting Kannon standing in front of a mandorla, holding a vase of nectar in the right hand, with the left hand lowered, welcoming the faithful to paradise.
  • Standing on a carved lotus on a gilt base.

Small scuffs and minor signs of wear to exterior with small cracking to lacquer on upper right door.

The bronze filigree neckpiece is partial and several carved leaves are missing from the lotus.
