Description

First edition with the gilt arms of Louis XIV's daughter.

  • Paris: Chez Jacques Collombat, 1712.
  • Bound in contemporary full red French morocco over cords, gilt decorated spine, covers ruled in gilt, gilt corner pieces, gilt crest to both covers of Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (1673-1743), gilt dentelles, all edges gilt.


The gilt arms of Princess Louise-Françoise de Bourbon was Louis XIV and the Marquise de Montespan's daughter. The Mademoiselle de Nantes, as she was known, had a magnificent collection of books and artworks at her Paris residence, the Palais Bourbon. Her library was particularly renowned for the quality of its bindings, many of which were executed by Derome and Padeloup. (Olivier, Reliures Armoriees, pl. 2628).
