Description
IWC has honored Jacques-Yves Cousteau with this limited edition Aquatimer Chronograph Tribute to Calypso. Limited to 2,500 pieces, this watch was imagined to raise awareness and funds for the preservation and conservation of Jacques-Yves Cousteau's original ship, the famous Calypso, after it sank at the Singapore Harbor in 1996. Evoking Cousteau's adventurous and curious nature, this piece stands out from the already bold and compelling Aquatimer line due to that rich blue dial complemented by black elements and a contrast-friendly splash of yellow. Furthermore, and arguably most importantly, IWC's watchmaking credentials and qualities live up to this longstanding partnership with the Cousteau name.
Like many other watch brands during the 1960s, when diving grew in popularity, IWC released its first dive watch, the Aquatimer. This model was slightly different from other water-destined watches at the time, as the watch's rotating bezel was internal and could only be operated using a second crown on the side of the case. Fast forward to today, and the Aquatimer is a true cornerstone of the modern IWC line-up, completing its catalog of tool watches. The internal rotating bezel is a feature still found on newer iterations, with a high water-resistance rating starting from 300 meters.
This Limited Edition Aquatimer Cousteau Divers Tribute to Calypso Reference 3782-03 is a stainless steel automatic wristwatch with chronograph, day and date, circa 2009, case and buckle in stainless steel, with rubber strap. Case size in diameter 44 mm, blue dial with internal rotating bezel . Water resistance 120 meters, power reserves 44 hours. Automatic movement with caliber ETA 7750. With chronograph, day of the week and date functions.
