Description

Johann Elias Ridinger (German, 1698-1767) painter, engraver, draughtsman and publisher.

  • Sold as a set of 4.
  • Mezzotint engraving plates, margins on all sides.
  • A fine group showing two male and two female hunters along with the spoils of the chase.
  • Each plate titled beneath image with lines of appropriate verse in German and Latin.
  • Ridinger studied at Ulm before establishing himself in Augsburg where he soon made a great reputation for animal paintings.
  • He became the official painter for several great nobles, aficionados of the hunt, as here he represented animals accurately in the midst of well-worked landscapes.
  • Framed and glazed.
