Jay Ahr presents a special interpretation of the Thangka - a Tibetan Buddhist painting, usually on cotton or silk appliqué. Part of a series in multiple acts highlighting a broad range of buddhist deities, from Buddha to bodhisattvas, and other divine beings. Here we zoom in on one of the attendants to the bodhisattva of compassion. A bodhisattva is a person who is able to reach nirvana but delays doing so through compassion for suffering beings. This depiction is combined with a quote from the Dalai Lama. This bag is a vintage Hermès Birkin 35 cast Vert Olive, first produced in 2012. The stamped-grain Epsom lightweight leather gives a structured relaxed contour. Featuring round top handles and a fold-over top with twist-lock closure. Detailed with palladium plated hardware, it comes with a detachable clochette with an encased key and a padlock.
Dating back as far as 11th century, Thangkas are religious paintings or embroideries most commonly used for meditation and to accrue merit towards enlightenment. Different Buddhist sects favour different peaceful deities, wrathful deities or mandalas in these exquisite works of art. Sacred Geometry is often utilised to represent the universe and spirtuality. Ākāśagarbha is one of the eight great bodhisattvas. As the bodhisttvas of “boundless space treasury”, he holds in his left palm Three Jewels representing the acceptance of Buddhist teachings. The Three Jewels represent Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
