Description

A first edition of Little Wars by H.G. Wells.

  • H.G. Wells (English).
  • Frank Palmer, 1913.
  • Complete with the tipped on frontispiece.

“Little Wars” is a set of rules for playing with toy soldiers and is widely considered a foundational text for the modern hobby of miniature war gaming. It provides simple, engaging rules for simulating battles using infantry, cavalry, and artillery, including a toy cannon that fires projectiles to knock over enemy figures. Wells wrote the book in a whimsical style, aiming it at “boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys’ games and books.”
