Description

A painted Chinese Famille rose tile from the Republic period.

  • The demise of imperial porcelain during the late Qing dynasty released a group of highly trained and skilled decorators onto the private market. They joined a talented group of master porcelain painters working for private firms and in their own studios, artist Liu Yucen (Chinese, 1904-1969) being among them.
  • A painted tile featuring a pair of Chinese bulbuls perched on a branch with chrysanthemum blossoms surrounded by a ruyi border.
