Description

A framed Famille Rose porcelain tile from the Republic period.

  • The demise of imperial porcelain during the late Qing dynasty had one good outcome in that it released a group of highly trained and skilled decorators onto the private market. They joined a talented group of master porcelain painters working for private firms and in their own studios, businessman and famous calligrapher Wang Yiting (Chinese, 1867-1938) being among them.
  • An idyllic scene of a mountain landscape, possibly the Yandang in the Zhejiang Province which was the birthplace of the artist who offered inspiration for the scene.
