Catalogue Note
In this calligraphic panel by the renowned Jordanian artist and calligrapher Professor Nassar Mansour, the artist revives the muhaqqaq script to its full glory. The script is associated with some of the most impressive royal Qur’ans commissioned between the 14th and early 15th century. In this composition, the monumental scale of the work recalls the so-called ‘Baysunghur’ Qur’an which was written on comparably large sheets measuring 177 by 101cm., while the alternating brown and gold ink draws parallels with the renowned Ilkhanid Qur’ans produced for Sultan Uljetu in the early 14th century.
