Auguste Francois Gorguet (French, 1862-1927).
This work is offered in a gilt frame.
A French painter, draftsman, and illustrator, Gorguet is known for historical, mythological and genre scenes.
Born in Paris, Gorguet studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Gustave Boulanger, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat, three of the foremost French painters and teachers of the era. He achieved early success with his posters and paintings capturing the spirit of the Belle Époque. Gorguet exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards including, in 1894, a travel prize that allowed him to travel and study in Italy, Spain and North Africa.
