Description

A first edition of Appointment in Samarra, by John O'Hara, accompanied by the novel's binding plate.

  • Sold as a set of 2: 1 volume and 1 binding plate.
  • John O'Hara (American).
  • New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1934.
  • Octavo.
  • First edition, first printing.
  • Bound by the Chelsea Bindery in full pictorial onlayed hand dyed morocco boards.

Presented with the binding plate used by the Chelsea Bindery to create the boards' leather onlay, designed by Alfred Maurer.

The first edition, first printing of John O’Hara’s critically acclaimed first book realistically detailing the three-day disintegration of Julian English in O'Hara's invented town of Gibbsville, PA. Making this copy particularly interesting is the presence of a blindstamp on the title-page of the Pottsville Public Library. Pottsville was O'Hara's birthplace and the basis for O'Hara's fictitious "Gibbsville."
