Description

A first edition, first issue of When We Were Very Young, by A.A. Milne.

  • London: Methuen, 1924.
  • Decorations by Ernest Shepard throughout. 
  • Original blue cloth gilt with vignettes to the boards in gilt, top edge gilt.


Published in London on 6th November 1924, the first printing sold out in one day and included Shepard’s first depiction of what would become Winnie the Pooh in the poem ‘Teddy Bear’ alongside the entrance of Christopher Robin in the poem ‘Buckingham Palace.’

Neat gift inscription to the front endpaper.

Binding very nice and tight, bright and clean with only very minor rubbing to the head and tail of the spine.

Minor browning to the blank endpapers as usual.

The dust wrapper has benefitted from some professional restorative repair to the spine and to the corners.
