Tipped to the verso of the front endleaf is a one page signed letter by Shepard which reads:


"28 November: 57

Dear Mrs. McCreedy,

I have heard from Miss George of the Oxford University Press that you are staying in the neighborhood. It will give great pleasure to my wife and to myself if you will come and see us. I would like to suggest Dec. 17th Tuesday, at 4 oclock, If your husband and daughter are able to come as well we shall bt most pleased,
