Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 13 was originally released by Nike in 1997 during the Chicago Bulls' famed “Last Dance” season. More than 20 years later, Nike produced Air Jordan 13 Retro Metal baseball cleats that featured the silhouette of the iconic basketball sneaker design. 

This pair of custom Air Jordan 13 Retro baseball cleats were specifically manufactured for Dexter Fowler to wear on Jackie Robinson Day during the 2019 MLB season. On that day, April 15, 2019, Fowler went 2-5 at the plate with 1 run scored as the St. Louis Cardinals fell 10-7 to the Milwaukee Brewers. Fowler was named an All-Star in 2016 and helped the Chicago Cubs break a 108-year drought and win the World Series that same season. 

Robinson’s number 42 is featured on the lateral side of the cleats in gray over a speckled blue background. The white and blue colorway is an homage to Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers. In addition, the Jumpman logo and “DF25” are stitched in blue onto the tongue of the right and left cleats, respectively. The sole of each cleat features nine metal spikes. 

Major League Baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson Day on April 15 every year to honor Robinson, who broke the color barrier in 1947. In 1997, Robinson’s number 42 was retired league-wide. Since 2009, all players, coaches and umpires wear the number 42 during games played on April 15 to commemorate Robinson.
