The Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High “UNC PE” was released by the Jordan brand as an exclusive for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Following the likes of the Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma Sooners and Florida Gators, this PE variation was dedicated to the alma mater of Jordan himself. Speaking directly to the spirit of Tar Heel Nation, these Air Jordans are designed in panels of white, dark navy and most recognizably, University Blue. In a textured blend of materials, the shoe’s upper imitates reptilian scales and stingray leather. Specifically, the forefoot, eyelets and collar stand out in Carolina Blue faux crocodile leather, contrasted with navy blue pebbled leather on the toe, collar overlay and heel. Arguably the most striking detail is the “UNC” logo stamped on the left tongue (and insole). Having never been released to the public, the Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High “UNC PE” is of ultra-rare status.
