Hand-dyed cotton with vegetal dyes, fibre extracted by hand from Hibisbus tiliaceus, embroider, threads, ribbons, stoneware, wood, nail
54 x 68 x 12.5 cm
“I struggle to swim through the suffocating chaos and emerge from the drowning, dragging swirls of pain. I then see drops of healing light raining onto my skin—tears shed by a compassionate soul.” Plant fibre extracted and processed by hand interlaces with the cotton fabrics that I hand-dyed using wilted flowers or
vegetable waste, such as onion skins, artichoke, celery leaves and tea leaves. The process of preparing these materials is almost as important as the finished work—explorations and dances with the lines and colours gifted by nature. Their somehow skin-like qualities prompted me to choose these materials to dialogue with my poem.
