ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Anna Leonhardt (b. 1981 Pforzheim, Germany) creates abstract paintings that feature thick, luminous marks made with many layers of oil paint dragged across the surface. With echoes of Gerhard Richter, Leonhardt has established her own unique visual language. Her work is both muscular and sensuous.

Fields of color bleed into other fields, an intuitive process informed by her locale, whether the Lower East Side of NYC, Brussels, or Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Life of-the-moment is transmuted into a rich panoply of oil paint, luminous, rhythmic, and mystical. At the end she applies vertical and horizontal forms she affectionately calls “Raumzeug” (Space Stuff). They are counterpoints to the painting, like cosmic force-fields demanding closer scrutiny.

Leonhardt has shown in the US, Europe and Asia, and her work is in numerous public collections including Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Kunstsammlung des Sächsischen Landtages, art collection of the Saxon Parliament, and in many private collections around the world. Leonhardt is represented by MARC STRAUS, NYC.
