ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Ann Veronica Janssens builds upon the legacy of Minimalism and the California Light and Space Movement, enabling viewers to perceive visible light as a material through intimate sculptural environments. She frequently employs light, fog, projections, spotlights, vinyl gels, and other industrial materials to create immersive installations that eschew monumentality. Her luminous works create gradient zones that oscillate between light and shadow, opacity and transparency, with an eye towards science and architecture. By exploring physical phenomenon and the properties of matter, the artist destabilizes viewers’ perceptions of everyday materials and the built environment.

Ann Veronica Janssens (b. 1956 in Folkestone, UK) lives and works in Brussels. Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at museums worldwide, including Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; De Pont Museum of Contemporary Art, Tillburg, The Netherlands; The Baltimore Museum of Art; Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas; S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium. She currently has a retrospective on view at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark, which will travel to South London Gallery.
