Does the whole Contemporary Art Evening Auction accept cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency will be accepted as payment for one lot in this auction. Both bitcoin and ether will be accepted.

Which lot accepts cryptocurrency?

Lot 104, Banksy’s Love is in the Air.

Which cryptocurrencies are accepted for payment?

Bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) will be accepted.

In which currency will the auction be held?

The auction will be conducted and invoiced in USD.

Which part of the transaction is payable in cryptocurrency?

Sotheby’s will accept cryptocurrency for the hammer price of the lot. The buyer’s premium and overhead premium, as well as any taxes, must be paid in USD.

Can I buy other lots in USD and one in cryptocurrency?


Are you accepting exchange and self-hosted wallets?

Payments from the following exchange wallets will be accepted. Payments from self-hosted wallets will not be accepted for this auction.
- Coinbase Custody Trust;
- Coinbase, Inc.;
- Fidelity Digital Assets Services, LLC.
- Gemini Trust Company, LLC; or
- Paxos Trust Company, LLC.

What is the payment process if I would like to pay in cryptocurrency?

If you provided exchange wallet information before the sale, Sotheby’s Post Sale Services will reach out to you prior to sending an invoice to confirm you still intend to pay with cryptocurrency. Sotheby’s will provide an invoice and instructions on how to pay in the cryptocurrency of your choice (BTC or ETH).

Are you working with a cryptocurrency exchange?
