The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes, Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, firstname.lastname@example.org, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work is well stretched on a new stretcher. The tacking edges have been reinforced. Previous heat exposure has degraded the original canvas and caused micro-blisters and small losses throughout the painted elements. The paint layer has a very grainy appearance as a result. As one would expect from a study, there are incidental marks, pencil lines and smudges that are original to the artist. Under ultraviolet light, there are numerous very small retouches throughout the painted elements addressing the losses. Due to the amount of restoration, cleaning the work is not recommended. Further retouching could be applied to the work, but it is presentable in its current state.
