Louis John Rhead (1857–1926) was an English-born American artist, who came to New York in 1883 to work as Art Director at D Appleton publishing house. He became a prominent poster artist in the 1890s working for Harper’s Bazaar, Harper’s Magazine, Century and Scribner’s Magazines. He later concentrated in illustrating children’s books until his death.
