The canvas has not been lined. Under UV light there are some small spots of retouching visible addressing an old 3cm indentation or partially repaired tear in the background beside the lady in black's left arm, and about five other tiny spots of retouching visible in the composition. Some other pigments fluoresce however these appear to be the artist's original materials. The varnish has yellowed and the surface is slightly dirty so this work would benefit from a light surface clean and some professional attention to improve the aforementioned indentation. This work is in overall good original condition.
Held in a decorative gilt and varnished wood frame.
