With a Jean Daniel Nicolas Certificate and a presentation box.
While the brand Jean Daniel Nicolas might be new to the public, the brain behind it, Daniel Roth, is one of the most renowned watch makers in the industry. Horology runs deep in the Roth family, both Daniel Roth's grandfather and great grandfather were watchmakers. He started his watch making career and learned traditional watch making techniques at Audemars Piguet. Armed with solid experience and training, he then spent 14 years at Breguet and became a master watch maker. He is credited with introducing what is now considered the "Breguet aesthetic". In 1989 he launched his own brand, Daniel Roth. The brand then sold to the Bulgari group in 2000, he relinquished the shares and left the company that bore his name. At 55 years old, Roth decided to start again, to design and build the watch that he wanted. The new company, Jean Daniel Nicolas, jointly with his son Jean and his wife Nicolas, would be a real family affair to inherit the great tradition and move forward and beyond.
Designed and hand made by Daniel Roth, the 2-minute tourbillon exemplifies the ultimate in independent craftsmanship. With twin barrels providing 60-hour power reserve, the balance beats within the two-minute tourbillon carriage. Beneath the finely mirror-finished double arches, the tourbillon cage rotates while indicating the seconds, designed aesthetically to keep the seconds hand away from the main dial. The choice of using the slower balance beat of 18,000 vph is also crucial to provide longevity to the design, protecting the movement parts from wear. Another detail not to be ignored is the Geneva waves on the back of the plate, detailed half circle waves which require superb techniques, charming the wearer through the sapphire crystal case back.
Never before offered at any auction, with production limited to a maximum of three pieces per year, the present watch is a truly bespoke piece and a testament to the exclusivity, exquisite workmanship and contribution of master watchmakers like Daniel Roth, to horological art.
