Painted in 1958 and part of the Centre de dominance series, this canvas evokes a sense of instantaneity, rapidity and spontaneity inherent in Reigl’s painterly approach. The central part of the painting incorporates a circular movement, structures the space and creates an incredible sense of the infinite for the spectator. In her technique, the artist plays with textures and forms with the same verve, alternating rough facture with refinement. With just a few brushstrokes, Reigl creates a passionate violence combined with softness, so that the work vibrates with a rare energy. In testimony to the fervour and force with which she paints, the artist declared to Jean Paul Ameline in 1990: “I paint and draw with all my body, each square centimetre, until the very tip of my fingers.”
