Sale: Yves de Cogny, Paris, 22nd June 1990, lot 111 Purchased at the above sale by the present owner
Pierre Guénégan, Amédée Ozenfant 1886-1966, Catalogue raisonné des œuvres sur papier, Paris, 2016, no. 1921/OP-005, illustrated p. 226
‘Ozenfant’s themed-objects, arranged in subtle and complex relationships within a shallow space, are seen from a variety of viewpoints. This ‘simultaneity of vision’ is suggestive of the sense of tactile familiarity and phenomenal constancy which one experiences with respect to things one handles in daily life’ (Iain Boyd White, Modernism and the Spirit of the City, Oxford, 2003,p. 154).
Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down and hinged to the mount on the verso on all four edges. There are scattered small spots of foxing to the sheet, predominantly visible in the pink pigment at the centre of the composition. There are further faint spots of discolouration to the pigments on the right side of the composition which relate to the former presence of mould, which was subsequently removed. There are three further spots of disturbance to the darker pigments of the upper background which do not appear to relate to any condition issue but is possibly the result of the removal of droplets of another pigment at the time of execution or shortly afterwards. This work is in overall good condition. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
