Catalogue Note

Sleeve vases painted with monumental landscapes are comparatively rare. It is more common to see vases decorated with historical figures, scenes from popular novels of the time, and birds and flowers. The present lot is also unusual for the the waterfall dominating the entire scene in the distance.

Another vase with a waterfall in the distance was sold in our London rooms, 11th June 1990, lot 134.
