A pair of European silk and gilt-metal appliqué and nué work ecclesiastical panels, French or Italian 17th century
each panel worked with applique in green, red, yellow and cream silk, with metal-thread edging and detailing, against a blue satin ground, with a central applique cartouche enclosing nué work scene of ecclesiastical figures; both panels later mounted within glass panels, with narrow frame applied with gold braid around top four edges
frame (approx.): 57.3 by 69cm., 22 1/2 by 27 1/5 in., textile (approx.) 44 by 55cm., 17 by 22in.
