"By choosing locomotives and railway tracks as objects for his paintings he discloses longings and wishes... Minangkabau people are known for their tradition of... temporary migration... Irfan himself says that his works are about arrival and departure. There are dreams of leaving and dreams of waiting... [Train tracks] are predominantly carriers of wishes, hopes and expectations."
Anton Larenz cited in Exhibition Catalogue, Bejing, Odyssey, 2008
Work is in overall good condition. The canvas is taut and the paint layers intact. Minor wear and handling around the edges, but this does not detract from the quality of the painting. Examination under ultraviolet light shows no signs of restoration. Un-framed on a stretcher.
