D. van Hadeln, Vasari Society, 2nd series, Part VIII, No. 4, illustrated (as Veronese)
Tietze, H. and E., The Drawings of the Venetian Painters in the 15th and 16th Centuries, No. A2109, New York, 1944 (as Bolognese School)
Richard Cocke, Veronese's Drawings, A Catalogue Raisonné, Sotheby Publications, London, 1984 (as Attributed to Veronese)
Richard Cocke, in his catalogue raisonné of Veronese’s drawings agrees with van Hadeln’s comparison to the Studies of Negroes by Veronese in the Lehman Collection (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and the Louvre, Cocke nos. 68 and 54; but nonetheless he includes this drawing in his Attributed To section, acknowledging that he had only known the drawing from a photograph. He also agrees with van Hadeln’s assumption that the work was a study drawn from life.
