• manual winding jewelled lever movement, mono-metallic balance • silvered dial, painted Arabic numerals and dot indexes for 24-hour indication, engine-turned subsidiary dials for constant seconds and 16-minute register, outer minute and 1/5 seconds track • stainless steel brushed and polished case, down-turned lugs, split seconds chronograph mechanism operated through one rectangular chronograph pusher to the band and through the crown, snap-on back engraved  case, dial and movement signed

The present lot is considered by collectors as one of the rarest military wristwatches ever made. Delivered to AMI (short for Areonautica Militare Italiana), the Italian Military Air Force just after the WWII in few examples, it features a 24 hour dial and a 16 minute chronograph register. These rare and unusual functions on a split-second chronograph wristwatch were especially made for night flights.

A. Cairelli was a known retailer of Universal Geneva watches in Rome.
