Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1864 and sale on December 9th, the same year. The Extract further confirms that garnet and diamond setting.
Only 8 heart-form watches by Patek Philippe are known to have survived and the present lot is one of three with the same hard stone setting. It should be noted that the present watch also features a heart-form movement; shaped movements are exceptionally rare. A very similar watch, also retailed by Hessenberg & Co, Frankfurt, was offered for sale at Antiquorum, Geneva, October 2005 lot 128. That watch no.16219 featured a pearl rather than diamond setting. A further 9''' heart form movement is illustrated in Huber, M., Banbery A., Patek Philippe, Second Edition, p.109.
